Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon Lydia Seyram Alhassan inaugurated an Astro Turf pitch at Abelenkpe in her constituency.
The facility named Abelenkpe Astro Turf is fitted with flood lights to allow for night activities. The facility is part of the numerous projects under the auspices of the Coastal Development Authority (CODA) spearheaded by its CEO Jerry Ahmed Shaib.
The inauguration of the project which is the first of its kind in the community was graced by municipal Chief Executive of Ayawaso West Wuogon Sandrah Owusu-Ahinkra, CEO of CODA, lawyer Jerry Ahmed Shaib, deputy health minister Tina Mensah, and MP for Weija Gbawe, Collins Adomako – Mensah, MP for Kwabre North and a member of the Youth and Sports Committee of parliament. Other dignitaries present included Director of sports at the University of Ghana and advisor to the sports minister Dr Bella Bello Bitugu.
In her address the Ayawaso West Wuogon MP Lydia Seyram Alhassan admonished the Astro Turf committee to “keep the facility in good shape as periodic maintenance is key.”
The MP also showed appreciation to the Chiefs and Elders of Okponglo and Bawaleshie Traditional Council and the Chief of Alajo for their immense support. She also extended her gratitude to Ministers, and other dignitaries who graced the occasion.
Lydia Alhassan underscored the importance of the facility to not just the community but the constituency at large. According to her the Astro Turf will help unearth football talents in the constituency and even beyond. The venue can also be used for other activities aside football, a development she stated would come as a relief to residents.
