An aspiring flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Poku says President Akufo-Addo has experienced the worst second term because he could not plan his first term well.
According to him, the first four years of every government is to strategize and get things running in the country to be able to enjoy the second four years.
Speaking on the Morning Starr with Francis Abban Tuesday, Mr. Poku disclosed that President Akufo-Addo rather went on a spending spree in his first four years to impress Ghanaians only to leave Ghanaians suffering in the second four years of his administration.
“So, the first four years of President Kufuor you didn’t see much. We saw an economic recovery at the latter end of President Kufuor’s rule and it was the work that was put in at the beginning of his administration. The hard work you put in the first four years shows in the next four years that is why the government always wants to do another four years.
“From 2001 to 2004 the country was in HIPC only for it to get better in Kufuor’s second term. What was supposed to be done between 2017 and 2020 was not done, that is why we are in the situation we are in now. When Nana Addo came in 2017, I said the economy was bad and what we needed was authority. All those promises Nana Addo said on his campaign platform should be put on hold,” Mr. Poku stated.
He continued: “Tell Ghanaians that we don’t have enough to do all the things we have promised. So, we are going to scale back, we are going to keep measures that will make the economy good, save money. Then in the future do the things we promise to do. That didn’t happen, we went out on a spending spree, went out and did all the things we promised. That is the problem we have because the first four years we did not solve the problem.”
