Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman Manu, and Director General for Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye have incurred the wrath of members of the health committee after the two failed to appear before the committee to answer questions on the shortage of vaccines in the country.
Speaking at the committee hearing, chairman Dr. Ayew Afriye disclosed Chief director of the ministry of health in a phone call mentioned the minister is unavoidably absent and thus can only be available on March 7.
Ranking member for the committee Kwabena Mintah Akandoh described the Minister’s absence as disrespectful stating he personally called the minister and the DG for GHS ahead to inform them about the meeting.
Following the development, the MP for Asawase and immediate past minority chief Whip Muntaka Mubarak called on the committee to issue a subpoena for the minister.
The Chairman of the committee Dr. Ayew Afriye though supported the idea of a subpoena, asked for a break for the committee to decide on the best time for the minister to appear before the committee later today since tomorrow is not an option.
A subpoena has therefore been issued to compel the Minister’s appearance before the committee at 3:00 pm today.
