Ugly Dray, popularly known as Cyril Dally, has just dropped his latest single, “Mokobi,” marking a significant shift in his musical style. Known for his rap prowess, the budding Ghanaian artist has transitioned to R&B with this new release.
Ugly Dray’s talent recently caught the attention of Victor Kwesi Mensah, better known as Vic Mensa, an acclaimed American rapper. Mensa, impressed and excited by Dray’s rap skills, praised him, saying, “Ugly Dray is the best upcoming rapper I have heard in Ghana recently.”
In an exclusive interview with Starrfm Online, Dray shared his thoughts on his musical evolution. “Oh yeah, one thing is I’m a versatile artist and I wouldn’t want to limit myself to just one genre, you get me? That should be one of the significant properties of a good artist,” he said. “I have always loved to experiment with various genres, and Afrobeats is one of them.
I love to merge my creative style with the African string to make it a beautiful piece. R&B is one of the most beautiful genres and moves in line with rap. I love R&B, and the fact that I do straight core rap doesn’t prevent me from doing those kinds of relative records.”
Dray further emphasized the importance of versatility in music. “I feel like that is an essential sign of maturity. Music is broad and always gives us the opportunity to try new things. Don’t stay limited in whatever you d .”
With “Mokobi,” Ugly Dray continues to push the boundaries of his musical capabilities, demonstrating his commitment to exploring new sounds and styles.
