Ghanaian artiste Stonebwoy, renowned for his substantial contributions to the music industry, recently shared that despite his impressive achievements, he envisions a long journey ahead in his musical career. The celebrated musician expressed his ambition to continue his craft for the next fifty years.
Stonebwoy’s comments came during the Telecel Ghana Music Awards held on Saturday, July 13, 2024, where he acknowledged the pivotal role of producers like Fredima, Mix Master Garzy, and Appietus in shaping Ghana’s music landscape. “I am yet to work with Appietus in my career, so I have fifty more years to go. Nothing happens. If I am here to work with Appietus, you can just imagine,” he remarked, emphasizing his enduring commitment to the industry.
The annual Ghana Music Awards, organized by Charterhouse Ghana, saw a gathering of influential figures from the creative economy, including record producers, copyright and music rights organization representatives, musicians, and creative entrepreneurs. Stonebwoy was honored with his official TGMA plaques at the event after delivering an outstanding performance.
In his acceptance speech, Stonebwoy expressed gratitude to the industry for its support, stating, “I humbly just want to say thank you guys [industry] so much for supporting the Ghana Music Awards. This is the only one we have. For me, if I have to work harder 100 times and win what is deserved 100 times, I think it’s in the right way for Ghana music.”
At the Silver Jubilee edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, held on June 1, 2024, in Accra, Stonebwoy won in seven categories, including Best Reggae and Dancehall Artiste for a record eighth time, Best Album/EP, Best International Collaboration, Record of the Year, Best Songwriter, Best Collaboration, and the coveted Artiste of the Year award. These victories make Stonebwoy the second most-awarded artiste in a single night since the scheme’s inception, following Ofori Amponsah’s achievement in 2006.
Stonebwoy’s new single ‘Your Body,’ a celebration of African beauty, self-love, and body positivity, was recently released and serves as a precursor to his highly anticipated sixth studio album, slated for release later this year. The track blends pop, R&B, and reggae melodies, showcasing Stonebwoy’s versatility as he deftly switches between singing and rapping.
As Stonebwoy looks forward to many more years in the industry, his aspirations and continued success promise to further elevate Ghanaian music on the global stage.
