Rising Ghanaian artiste Olivetheboy has responded to the swirling controversy following his recent performance at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Youth Manifesto launch. Amid speculations that his appearance signals an affiliation with the opposition political party, the singer has firmly stated that his involvement was purely professional.
In an interview on Okay FM, which was monitored by StarrFm.com.gh, Olivetheboy emphasized that his performance should not be viewed as an endorsement of the NDC. He explained that the invitation came from Sharaf Mahama, son of former President John Mahama, and that he saw the event as a straightforward business engagement.
“I was hired to perform, just like I am billed at Afrochella or any other event. My performance is not tied to any political endorsement,” he clarified.
Olivetheboy further expressed his apolitical stance, making it clear that he is open to performing for any political party if approached. “If NPP calls me today, I will perform. If CPP comes tomorrow, I will still go and perform. I have friends from all political parties, and if I have been hired to perform, I surely will,” he added.
In response to critics questioning his decision, the artiste remained unfazed, pointing out that his loyal fans understand his focus on his career and the need to earn a living. “I see all the critics and I don’t even bother myself to respond, my fans will do that for me. I also have fans who know it’s purely business because I need to make some money,” he concluded.
Olivetheboy’s statements aim to clear the air and reinforce his commitment to his music career, regardless of political affiliations.
