A well-known international money transfer platform, Taptap Send, has temporarily paused its services to Ghana. This temporal pause has caused concern among its users who rely on the platform to send funds to family and friends in the country. In a statement released in early November, the platform apologized for any disruptions this may cause and expressed its dedication to quickly restoring services.
According to Taptap Send, teams are working hard with their partners in Ghana to ensure a smooth return of the service. Although the exact timeline for resuming transfers is not provided, Taptap Send reiterated its commitment to providing “excellent service.”
In the meantime, Taptap Send assured users that their funds are completely safe and secure. Any money held in Taptap Send wallets can still be withdrawn to personal bank accounts. The company emphasized that this is only a temporary pause and that customer funds are fully protected.
This operational halt comes at a time when remittances from the diaspora play an important role in the Ghanaian economy and thus, many Ghanaians are hopeful for a swift resolution, especially given the rising importance of digital remittances in bridging financial gaps for families and communities
