The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has confirmed that the upcoming reconvening of Parliament will take place at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) on Monday, December 16, 2024.
This announcement was officially made through a circular issued by the Speaker’s Office on December 11, 2024.
The decision to host Parliament’s seventh meeting of the fourth session at the AICC comes after a previous notice issued on December 2, 2024, in which Speaker Bagbin had outlined the reconvening of the House.
This move marks an important step as Parliament prepares to address legislative matters in the post-election period.
Earlier, Speaker Bagbin had faced requests from the Majority caucus, particularly from the NPP’s Alexander Afenyo-Markin, to recall Parliament ahead of the December 7 elections.
However, the Speaker opted to adhere to the original plan, with Parliament’s reconvening set for December 16 to address key legislative concerns and ensure a smooth transition to the new Parliament.
In the official notice issued by Speaker Bagbin, he emphasised that the meeting would take place at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre at 10:00 AM, highlighting the venue’s capacity to host such an important gathering.
The reconvening of Parliament will allow MPs to resume their duties and address any outstanding legislative matters in preparation for the transition to the ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic.
