The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has demanded that the Electoral Commission (EC) reverse what it describes as illegal parliamentary victory declarations made by individuals not authorised by the Commission.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, December 11, the NPP General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of engaging in unlawful activities following the 2024 elections.
He pointed out that several NDC supporters, rather than official election officers, were making declarations of victory in various constituencies.
“The NDC deployed their men to, in some cases, force the hands of the Electoral Commission’s returning officers to declare results in their favour.”
According to the Mr. Kodua, several constituencies, including Dome Kwabenya, Ablekuma North, and OkaiKwe Central, Nsawam Adoagyiri as being among those where these unauthorised declarations were taking place.
The party believes such actions undermined the credibility of the electoral process and needed to be addressed immediately.
They have urged the EC to take swift action to nullify these illegal declarations, emphasising the need to uphold the integrity of the election results.
“The chairperson of the EC should intervene and respond positively to all petitions brought before them and address these matters. The EC must take immediate steps to reverse these illegal declarations, which were not based on properly collated results,”
“They [NDC] called somebody to declare the result when the rightful person, who had sworn an oath to be the returning officer, was bypassed,” he alleged.
