Three passengers have tragically lost their lives, while 20 others are in critical condition following a horrific accident at Gomoa Okyereko Junction in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
The accident, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, involved a VW Sprinter Benz Bus (registration number GW 5477-24) and a Hyundai Grace minibus (registration number GR 5899-22).
Eyewitness Kweku Atta, speaking to Kasapa News, explained that the Sprinter bus was traveling towards Takoradi, while the Hyundai Grace was heading from Winneba to Kasoa.
According to Kweku, the Sprinter driver attempted a wrongful overtaking, which led to a head-on collision with the Hyundai Grace.
The deceased, two male passengers and one female, were confirmed dead at the scene. The 20 victims who sustained critical injuries are currently receiving treatment at the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital.
In the wake of the accident, D02 Fredrick Adu-Poku, the Winneba Municipal Fire Service Commander, urged drivers to avoid reckless overtaking, especially with the Christmas festivities approaching.
He emphasised that the accident could have been prevented had the driver exercised more patience.
