Two men, Wisdom Ahlie, 42, and Christopher Okyere, 33, have been arrested at the Parliament premises in Accra on December 18, 2024, for vandalising parked vehicles.
According to a statement by Parliament, the suspects used an axe head to smash the windscreens and side glasses of five vehicles, including two Toyota Land Cruisers belonging to Members of Parliament, a Toyota RAV4, and two Toyota Camry cars owned by parliamentary staff.
The motive behind the vandalism is still unknown. However, the swift response of the parliamentary security unit led to the arrest of the suspects, who have since been handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported, although the extent of the damage is yet to be determined. Parliament has assured the public that the incident is being taken seriously and is being investigated further.
The statement noted, “At about 1030hrs on 18th December 2024, two (2) suspected individuals, namely Wisdom Ahlie (42 Yrs) and Christopher Okyere (33 Yrs) were apprehended after they were seen vandalizing the windscreens and side glasses of parked vehicles on the precincts of Parliament. The Five (5) vehicles involved included two (2) Toyota Land Cruisers belonging to Members of Parliament, a Toyota Rav 4 and two (2) Toyota Camry belonging to Staff of the Parliamentary Service. An axe head was used to commit the crime. The motive(s) behind their action(s) is/are unknown. The perpetrators were swiftly arrested by the personnel of the Parliamentary Security Unit and have since been handed over to the Parliamentary Protection Unit (Ghana Police Service) to carry out further investigations into the incident. Parliament would like to assure the public that there were no casualties although the extent of damage is yet to be determined.”
