Former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has extended his full support to the Black Stars as Ghana’s senior national football team gears up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In a statement posted on social media, Dr. Bawumia highlighted football’s unifying power and expressed confidence in the team’s ability to deliver strong performances on the world stage.
“It has always united us and it brings the world together,” Dr. Bawumia said. “As the Black Stars start their journey at the 2026 World Cup, I want to wish them the very best. Black Stars, you have done it before and you can do it again. The nation is behind you and I am behind you. Go for gold. Go Black Stars, go.”
The message comes at a time when the Black Stars prepare to face Panama in the tournament which is co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Ghana will be looking to improve on past performances and make the nation proud.
Dr. Bawumia, who is also the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate for the 2028 general elections, emphasised national unity behind the team, calling on all Ghanaians to stand with the players.
The Black Stars have a rich history of memorable World Cup campaigns, including reaching the quarter-finals in 2010, and are expected to approach the 2026 edition with renewed ambition under the guidance of the technical team.
