3rd GhanaFest Alberta launched; slated for July 25-27 in Canada

Organizers of the annual GhanaFest Alberta have promised an unforgettable cultural celebration as they prepare for the third edition of the event, which will be held in Edmonton, Canada, from July 25 to 27, 2025.

With preparations already underway, this year’s festival is expected to attract thousands of Ghanaians and friends of Ghana from across North America and beyond. The event will highlight Ghana’s vibrant heritage through music, dance, cuisine, fashion, and art.

Themed “Bridging Cultures from Ghana to the World,” the three-day celebration aims to promote unity and showcase Ghanaian culture within Canada’s diverse multicultural landscape.

Organized by GhanaFest Alberta Incorporated, the event is being held in partnership with the Diaspora Africa Forum (DAF), the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), and the National Commission on Culture (NCC).

Jonathan Mingle, Head of Business and Partnerships at GhanaFest Alberta, said the event is meant to give Ghanaians living abroad, especially those born outside Ghana a chance to connect with their cultural roots.

“This is a platform to showcase Ghanaian culture and heritage to our diaspora community and others who are not Ghanaian,” he added. “Ghana has a very rich culture in terms of dance, music, food, and more. Last year, we had Samini and Akwaboah join us and this year promises to be even more amazing.”

Maame Afua Houadjeto, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting diaspora-led cultural events.
She, however, urged Ghanaian exhibitors to improve the packaging and presentation of their products in order to make a stronger impression on global markets.

“Our products are beautiful, and we offer high-quality goods, but we’ve often lacked proper packaging,” she said. “We’ve seen improvements, and we’re encouraging more vendors promoting Ghanaian products to be mindful of packaging. The look and feel of every product is very important; packaging should be visually attractive.”

The 2025 edition of GhanaFest Alberta will feature electrifying live performances, a variety of Ghanaian dishes, and colorful displays of traditional and contemporary Ghanaian culture.
