Minister-designate for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has announced that the fourth National Policy Summit will be dedicated to giving a status update on government’s flagship programmes.

According to him, the summit which is themed “Assessing Government Flagship Programs and the Journey so far”, is to explain where government stands in terms of the delivering of the various flagship programmes.

“As part of government’s efforts to make itself available and to be accountable to the people in whose name and on whose behalf we work, this 4th National Policy Summit is dedicated solely to our flagship programmes and providing a status report on these Flagship Programmes,” he stated.

The government programmes which will be assessed during the summit includes the 1 District 1 Factory Project, the 1 Village 1 Dam project, National Health Insurance Scheme Reform,  the Livelihood Empowerment Programmes, the Free Senior High School and the Double Track System, the Technical and Vocational Training Program and the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Program.

Mr. Oppong Nkrumah further explained that the main aim of the summit is to address concerns by many Ghanaians who have been enquiring or desiring to know the status of the various government flagship programs

“On the 24th and 25th of September, Ministers of State responsible for these various programmes will engage directly with stakeholders in Tamale and provide a status report on these programmes and also take feedbacks”, he stated.

The Keynote speaker for the September edition of the National Policy Summit will be Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Also in attendance will be Paramount Chief of the Kpembe Traditional area, Kpembe Wura Bismark Haruna Dari, various ministers of states, members of academia, members from the business community and various stakeholders.

The National Policy Summit is a platform designed by the Ministry of Information which gives ministries, departments and agencies an opportunity to engage with various stakeholders, academia civil society groups and economic actors on the various government policies and programs in order to provide a status update to the people and also gather feedback.

In July this year, the third policy summit was held in Kumasi on the theme; “Assessing the growth, jobs and prosperity agenda”.

The two-day event brought ministers of state, academia, policy makers and citizens together with the common goal of assessing government’s progress on its agenda to create jobs for growth and prosperity as well as taking feedback on same.
