The contractor working on the Sibi-Damanko section of the eastern corridor road has moved in to fix the collapsed bridge on that stretch, which left hundreds of passengers and cargo trucks stranded in the northern part of the Volta region on Thursday July 20, 2017.
The makeshift bridge provided by the contractor working on a permanent bridge across the Lornkor stream near Damanko in the Nkwanta North district, curve in after a heavy duty truck attempted using it.
As a result, scores of passengers travelling to and fro the northern part of the country were compelled to sleep over in their vehicles on both ends of the collapsed bridge.
However, speaking to Starr news Correspondent, Lambert Atsivor on the situation, the Nkwanta North District Chief Executive, Jackson Kwame Jakayi said the contractor have gone back on site to create an alternative route for the use of the stranded travellers and vehicles as work progresses on a permanent bridge under construction.
“These days it rains torrentially and because of that, I believed it weakened the temporary bridge leading to its collapse. So I drew the attention of the contractor and as we speak now, they are working seriously at the place to enable vehicles to pass. Because it the rainy season, they’ve brought a lot of boulders to create a diversion for even heavy duty vehicles to use with any difficulty,” the DCE indicated.
