Minority to petition NMC over Paul’s attack on Zanetor

The Minority in Parliament says it will petition the national media commission over the attacks on Klottey-Korley Member of Parliament Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings by Metro TV journalist Paul Adom-Otchere.

The TV presenter on his ‘Good Evening Ghana’ show on Thursday night descended heavily on the MP over her claim that aid distributing officials are demanding party identification before food is giving to the vulnerable in lockdown areas. A among other attacks, he asked the first time MP to stop “stop misbehaving”.

Commenting on the development at press conference Thursday, the Minority spokesperson on Minority Chief Whip, Mubarak  Muntaka said they will not allow themselves to be distracted by the attacks.

“We will officially launch a complaint to the National Media Commission and it is our expectation that they will expedite action on it and get him to do the right thing. At this moment, this is not the time to divide ourselves. This is the time for us to be together and if for anything this virus has taught us, we are first humans before any other thing so let’s keep the humanity and work together and not reduce this into banter between NDC and NPP,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has called on President Akufo-Addo to institute a probe into reports of politicisation of food aid to the vulnerable in the lockdown areas in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

It comes after the Gender minister Cynthia Morrison denied her claims that NADMO officials are demanding party identification before dishing out food to some people in her constituency.

In a statement, Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings said she stands ready to back her claims with evidence.

“I call on the President, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to institute credible investigations into the seeming politicization of food distribution in this time of crisis. My constituents and I stand ready to cooperate and to present unimpeachable evidence before such an investigative panel.

“May we learn to eschew needless partisanship in this defining period in the history of humankind and come together in true unity to win the war against COVID-19 and to protect the vulnerable adversely impacted in these apocalyptic times,” she said.

She added: “My colleague MP in the Ablekuma South Constituecy Dr. Oko Vanderpuije had to also go public about how food intended for the poor was being distributed in NPP vehicles under the direct supervision of the NPP candidate for that constituency. Dr. Oko Vanderpuije before speaking to the press about the unfortunate development had called Mrs. Cynthia Mamle Morrison on phone to bring the matter to her notice and to register his protest.

“The media continues to report similar situations of seeming partisanship in food distribution across many lockdown constituencies. This is complimentary to reports from many Ghanaians who have shared their ordeal on social media”.
