An aspirant for the position of National Nasara Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ali Suraj, has pledged to eliminate the influence of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from Ghana’s Zongo communities if he is elected to the role.
Speaking after filing his nomination forms at the party’sheadquartersin Accra, Suraj said his primary focus would be securing victory for the flagbearer of the party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2028 presidential election.
He pledged that, under his leadership, the NDC would become irrelevant in Muslim-dominated Zongo areas.
“By the special grace of God, if I get elected as a national Nasara organizer in the Zongo community, NDC is dead. NDC is dead, you will never hear anything about NDC again,” Suraj stated.
“Because I’m going to work hard. I’m going to go down to the grassroots, because I’m a grassroots person.”
Suraj emphasised mobilisation at the polling-station level and engaging youth across generations.
He said the party must demonstrate its record rather than merely claiming superiority, citing key NPP initiatives including Planting for Food and Jobs, the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO), free senior high school education, and the Zongo Development Fund.
He highlighted the Zongo Development Fund’s impact, particularly in addressing cultural and religious sensitivities.
Using the example of medical care for Muslim women, he noted that the fund has supported training of female doctors so that women can receive care without compromising religious norms regarding modesty.
Suraj expressed gratitude to Allah, the original 14 Nasara organisers who endorsed his candidature, Alhaji Manaf, Hajia Fati, and the late former Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama, whom he described as a father figure who mentored him.
Nasara is the NPP’s wing responsible for mobilising support within Ghana’s Muslim communities.
