The Keta Municipal Assembly has stepped up the fight against the deadly novel coronavirus by distributing nose masks and hand sanitizers to residents.
On Thursday, April 30, the Assembly began the free distribution of 5,000 pieces of nose masks and 3,000 bottles of hand sanitizers to market centres, commercial motorbike riders, lorry stations, public and private institutions within the municipality in order to curb the spread of the pandemic.
The distribution exercise led by the Municipal Chief Executive, Godwin Edudzi Efdah is meant to ensure full compliance with the directive on the mandatory wearing of nose masks at all public places as issued by the Assembly.
According to the MCE, the Assembly in collaboration with the security agencies would ensure strict adherence to the directive hence the need to support such centers.
“From the first week of May, if you don’t have a face mask on, the police would not allow you access to the municipality,” he indicated.
He added that, “Residents who don’t wear a face mask at public places would also be driven home.”
Mr. Effah urged residents to strictly adhere to social distancing protocols and also wash their hands frequently with soap under running water, use hand sanitizers, and wear face masks in public places to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
“We must endeavor to stay at home when we have nothing doing in town and avoid public gathering during this pandemic,” he added.
Thursday’s distribution exercise follows a series of moves by the Assembly in its bid to protect the municipality from the deadly pandemic.
About two weeks ago, the Assembly handed over PPEs valued at Gh¢ 40,000 to the municipal health directorate, in addition to the distribution of over 300 Veronica buckets, 100 dustbins, liquid soaps and tissue papers to some communities in the municipality.
The Volta region has since recorded 5 more cases of the deadly Covid-19 pandemic, bringing the region’s totally tally to 11.
