Nat’l Cathedral: Ablakwa to petition CHRAJ over money given to unqualified company

The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa says he will soon petition Parliament and Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) over the alleged misappropriation of funds for the National Cathedral.

The MP alleged that millions of taxpayers’ money have been diverted to companies without any construction or architectural design track record.

According to his latest revelation, a company known as JNS Talent Centre Limited which allegedly runs a creche in Dawuenya was allegedly paid GHC2.6million to help build the cathedral.

“Would you believe that this company which is really a family business, Johannes Eshun and his wife Sheila Eshun, their stated capital is GHC500. How can this small family business come by GHC2.6million in payment, that they are part of the people building the National Cathedral? Can you believe this,” he said in an interview with Starr News.

He added: “So I decided to dig deeper and this Johannes Eshun is a reverend minister and he’s the spiritual son of the Secretary to the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral. Can you believe that? He’s the branch pastor of Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng’s Church. It has been scandal after scandal.”

The lawmaker further said the petition has become necessary because of the continuous misappropriation of funds.

“As a Member of Parliament, I would want Parliament to come in at some point. I’d already filed a motion asking for a special probe, it’s before the Speaker. I wanted a special probe on this National cathedral saga. I will renew my interest in that and hope to have a discussion with the Speaker to admit that motion to have a full Parliamentary public inquiry into this matter. Then, I’m also considering… because of what this government officials and their lawyers do when it comes to conflict of interest matters, they try to hold the hands of Parliament, I’ve resolved to carry out a CHRAJ action, a conflict of interest matter.”
