Minority Leader Dr. Caesel Attorney Forson has said the Akufo-Addo led government has been unkind to cocoa farmers in the country.
Despite Ghana being the second largest producer of cocoa, farmers are still struggling to break even as socio-economic development in various cocoa growing areas remains poor.
Access to fertilizer and other inputs including the ravages of illegal mining are major challenges affecting farmers.
Addressing cocoa farmers in Dadeaso Aba in the Asutifi North of the Anafo region, Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson accused the government of being insensitive to the plight of cocoa farmers.
He assured the Chief and people of the area that the next NDC government under John Dramani Mahama will restore policies to ensure get best value to their toil.
President Akufo-Addo on Saturday announced an increase in cocoa price from GH¢12,800 to GH¢20,943 per tonne, a new producer price for the 2023/2024 cocoa season.
But Dr. Ato Forson insists the government is rather cheating the cocoa farmers.
However, Nana Okyere Siabuor III, Chief of Ahafo Asufufuo in the Ahafo Ano Municipality charged the government to take steps to address challenges confronting cocoa farmers in the area.
