The proceedings of James Gyakye Quayson, the NDC Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin North (MP) who is standing trial has taken a long break as Justice Mary Maame Ekue Yanzuh, the trial judge is proceeding on leave.
Justice Yanzuh, is one of the 12 judges who sat during the course of the two month legal vacation between August and September and as part of the practice, she is to proceed on leave.
In Court on Wednesday, November 22, when the case was called for prosecution to call its third witnesses, the case was heard in chambers at the expense of Defence Counsel, Tsatsu Tsikata and was adjourned subsequently.
The trial has been characterized with controversy over the absence of the accused whom his lawyers have said is in Canada for medical examination.
The Court had ordered the continuation of the trial in his absence, a development his lawyers are contesting at the Supreme Court.
The case has since been adjourned to February 7, 2024, two months and 14 days.
The MP for the Assin North is facing five charges of Deceit of Public officer, forgery of passport or travel certificates, knowingly making a false statutory declaration, perjury and false declaration for office.
He has since pleaded not guilty and has been granted bail.
