The Actors’ Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has announced the indefinite suspension of Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar, citing her involvement in professional misconduct. According to a statement released by the Guild on Friday, the decision comes after a two-year secret investigation into Abubakar’s alleged activities, which included slander against colleagues and involvement in spreading false information.
The AGN revealed that the investigation uncovered Abubakar’s role in disseminating damaging allegations, including claims of extramarital affairs involving prominent individuals within and outside the industry. The Guild stated that the actress had been at the center of a smear campaign targeting fellow Nollywood actors, associates, and patrons.
The AGN noted that Abubakar’s suspension is indefinite, pending a review by the National Disciplinary Committee. During this period, she is prohibited from participating in any activities organized by the Guild or any filming projects under its umbrella.
In addition to Abubakar’s case, the Guild disclosed that several other female members are currently under investigation. These members are reportedly linked to the recent controversy surrounding the release of names purported to have had dealings with Senate President Godswill Akpabio. The AGN’s secret investigative panel is continuing its probe into the matter.
“After two years of investigations, the Panel found out that Miss Halima Abubakar was behind all the slandering information,” the AGN said in its statement. “Therefore, Halima Abubakar is hereby placed on indefinite suspension.”
The Guild emphasized that it is committed to maintaining professionalism and protecting the integrity of the Nollywood industry from falsehoods and unethical behavior.
