Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie has called for greater recognition and promotion of Ghana’s linguistic diversity, describing the country’s many languages as a vital part of its cultural identity and a key attraction for tourism.
Speaking on Starr FM’s Morning Star on Wednesday, 4 November 2026, the Minister said embracing linguistic variety is an acknowledgement of Ghana’s diversity and an opportunity to harness its inherent beauty for national development.
“Embracing languages is an admission that you accept that we are diverse, but there’s a beauty in that diversity that we must harness as a country to promote everything that we are doing,” Gomashie stated.
To her, there are three main things that every Ghanaian ought to know about our distinct cultures.
“If we didn’t learn about the food, we should learn about the language, and if we don’t learn the language, we should learn the fashion from the area, or the music from the area.
“We are here talking about Waakye and Akple and Fufu – they are part of a cultural setting.”
She emphasised that Ghana’s languages represent a rich cultural heritage that should be preserved and actively promoted to attract tourists and deepen cultural exchange.
