Security analyst Dr. Adam Bonaa has urged heightened vigilance following the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) press conference alleging collusion between the Electoral Commission (EC) and military officers to rig the upcoming election.
This comes on the back of NDC’s press conference on Tuesday, in which they accused the EC and one military officer Brigadier General Michael Opoku of planning to cause chaos on election day to rig the election.
The press conference also revealed that, some citizens are illegally kept at a military center receiving training under the named military officer, and printed ballat papers, military uniforms and weapons being kept.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Lily Mohammed, Dr. Bonaa expressed serious concern over the accusations and their potential implications.
Dr. Bonaa highlighted the gravity of the situation, emphasizing the need for thorough investigation and action.
He specifically called on the Inspector General of Police and the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) to urgently address the NDC’s allegations.
“The apprehension in the military is becoming worrying, so what the NDC put out if it is anything to go by, calls for all of us to be vigilant and also to call the attention of the Inspector General of Police and CDS. It is important that these things, coming a few weeks into the election, are looked at and not just swept under the carpet or ignored. It will come back to hurt all of us if we are not vigilant. We should be more vigilant”, Dr. Bonaa stated
Dr. Bonaa also voiced concern over reported transfers within the military and their proximity to the Jubilee House. He emphasized that the timing of these transfers, so close to the election, raises serious questions that demand immediate attention.
“As I woke up this dawn, several messages have hit my phone from across the country, from serving other ranks to senior officers, especially within the military,” he revealed, indicating a widespread sense of unease within the armed forces.
Dr. Bonaa’s comments underscore the seriousness of the allegations and the potential impact on the integrity of the electoral process.
His call for vigilance highlights the need for all stakeholders to remain alert and to demand accountability from those in positions of authority to ensure free and fair elections.
