The Ghana Police has provided some safety measures for the general public across Accra amid the 7th January 2025 inauguration for the president elect John Dramani Mahama and vice president elect professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman.

As part of the measures, there will be intermittent road blocks, restrictions and traffic diversions in some parts of Accra.

The geographical areas around Ako Adjei Interchange through the AU Roundabout, State House, Osu Cemetery Traffic Light, Accra Sports Stadium, the Independence (Black Star) Square, Ministries Traffic Light, Customs Headquarters Traffic Light area and the Gamel Abdul Nasser Avenue are considered security operational perimeter for the purposes of the event.

Roads in the security operational perimeter would, therefore, be closed to both human and vehicular traffic from 6:00AM to 6:00PM tomorrow, Tuesday, 7th January 2025. The specific roads which will be closed to the public are;

a. 28th February Road from Customs Headquarters towards Castle Road Junction.

b. Both sides of the road from the Osu Cemetery Traffic Light on the Lokko Street towards the AU Roundabout.

c. Starlet 91 Road from the Ministries Traffic Light Intersection towards the Accra Sports Stadium.

Additionally, motorists are advised to take note of the following traffic diversions;

a. Traffic from the 28th February Road emanating from La, Labone and Osu towards the Central Business District (CBD) will be diverted unto the Salem Avenue Traffic Light at the Castle Traffic Light to link up with the Oxford Street.

b. Traffic from the John Evans Attah Mills High Street towards the Independence (Black Star) Square will be diverted to the Liberia Road at the Customs Headquarters Traffic Light Intersection to the National Theatre Traffic Light Intersection.

c. Motorists from Lokko Street towards the Castle Road should use the Ajumaku and Oxford Streets.

d. Traffic from the AU Roundabout towards the Castle Road through the Osu Cemetery Traffic Light shall be diverted onto the Abdul Diouf and King Hassan Roads to link with the Abdul Nasser-Gamel Road in front of the Ghana Institute of Journalism.

Residents within the security operational perimeter, invited dignitaries, motorists, pedestrians, and the general public are advised to use alternative routes, follow traffic directives from the Police and adhere to the security measures put in place for the swearing-in.

Meanwhile, security arrangements are also in place for the swearing-in of Members of Parliament-elects and the Speaker of Parliament today, 6th January 2025, at the Parliament House.

The public is encouraged to attend the ceremony, as parking spaces will be available at the Forecourt of the State House, Effua Sutherland Park, and the premises of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
