The Member of Parliament for Buem and Minister-designate for Youth and Sports, Kofi Adams, has expressed his unwavering commitment to rejuvenating Ghana’s sports sector.
Speaking in an interview on GHOne TV’s Hard Talk on Wednesday. Using a powerful analogy, he reflected on the lessons of leadership and accountability while outlining his vision for the future of sports in Ghana.
As Sports Minister designate, Adams acknowledged the responsibility of restoring Ghana’s sporting glory. “It’s like growing cassava on a soil that once thrived. No matter the changes, with the right corrections, the soil can yield even better results. Ghana has done well in football, boxing, athletics, basketball, and more. The talent is still here—we just need to lead right.”
Adams highlighted Ghana’s past achievements in sports as evidence of the country’s immense potential. He reiterated his belief in fostering unity and collaboration to unlock this potential, saying, “We need to rally everyone around, be positive, and create an environment where sports can thrive.”
Adams emphasized that sports play a pivotal role in uniting the nation and offering opportunities for the youth. “Sports create discipline, bring pride to the nation, and offer free time for growth and engagement. If we channel this potential correctly, the benefits will be transformative.”
The Sports Minister pledged to focus on building structures, enhancing grassroots development, and supporting athletes to reach their full potential. “Ghana has the genes and the talent to excel globally. Leadership will determine whether we harness that potential or let it go to waste. I am here to ensure we make the right choices.”
