President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama has assured traders in Takoradi that his government will resume work on the stalled market project.
He said the state of the iconic marketplace was concerning to many residents, adding that he would kick start conversations with the Finance Minister and contractors on how the project could be completed.
President Mahama is in the Western Region as part of his Thank You tour nationwide.
The region voted decisively for him in last year’s general election which saw the National Democratic Congress (NDC) leader return to the nation’s highest office after eight years in opposition.
The president said the market circle remains synonymous to Takoradi, the Western Regional Capital hence the need for it to be prioritized.
He said he had chosen to come to the market on his visit to the city to engage contractors on how the stalled project could be resumed.
“On Friday we’ll have a meeting with the contractors and Minister of Finance to come to an arrangement on how we can continue to project,” the president said Wednesday to cheers.
He told traders it would not be long before the contractors resumed work on the market project.
The stalled Takoradi Circle Market which started about five years ago under the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration is valued at €48million.
