Government intends to construct a new expressway between Accra and Kumasi to significantly reduce travel hours between the nations biggest cities, President John Mahama has said.
Delivering remarks on his Thank You tour of the Upper West Region on Thursday, the president disclosed that his cabinet will soon approve “priority projects” as part of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) “Big Push” campaign pledge.
President Mahama said government is set to sanction a dualization program of major highways across the country.
“Cabinet will approve priority projects under the ‘Big Push’ infrastructure program. These works includes the dualization of major highways including the Accra-Kumasi, Accra-Takoradi and Accra-Takoradi roads.
“We are also deciding on a new expressway between Accra and Kumasi which will reduce the travel time between the two largest cities in Ghana by about two hours,” the president said behind the lectern.
He also assured the chiefs and people of Upper West Region that his government will prioritize the construction Techiman-Wenchi-Bole-Wa-Hammile road under the ‘Big Push’ project.
The president, who expressed appreciation to the people for his December 7 mandate last year, promised to stand “shoulder to shoulder” with citizens towards achieving his agenda.
