Ghanaians are being urged to share heartfelt tributes and messages of condolence as the nation prepares to honour eight senior officials who perished in last week’s military helicopter crash.
The call, announced on Monday, August 11, 2025, by Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, is part of preparations for a state funeral scheduled for Friday, August 15 at Black Star Square.
According to the Funeral Planning Committee, the public is invited to submit tributes for inclusion in the official funeral brochure.
Submissions should be sent via email to tributes@presidency.gov.gh no later than 12:00 PM GMT on Wednesday, August 13, 2025—exactly one week after the tragedy.
“In the wake of the profound sorrow following the tragic helicopter crash on 6 August 2025, the Funeral Planning Committee extends a solemn invitation to all individuals, institutions, and the public to come together in remembrance and honour the lives of those we so sadly lost,” the statement read.
The victims of the August 6 crash include Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
The disaster has left the nation in deep mourning. Two of the victims, both Muslims, were buried on Sunday, August 10, at the Military Cemetery in accordance with Islamic rites.
The state funeral will begin at 8:00 AM on August 15, where the nation will pay its final respects to the eight fallen leaders.
