Fifteen out of the 23 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament from the Eastern Region have declared their backing for the former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.
The endorsement was formally announced during Dr. Bawumia’s regional tour, which began in Nkawkaw.
The MPs, led by Achiase MP Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo, said their decision was based on Dr. Bawumia’s proven leadership record, describing him as the most impactful Vice President in Ghana’s Fourth Republic.
They cited his role in shaping economic policy, driving digital transformation, and promoting inclusive governance as achievements that position him as the party’s strongest candidate to reclaim power in 2028.
“Politically and policy-wise, Dr. Bawumia is unmatched. He has been well marketed over the years, and we are confident he is the best candidate to lead us to victory,” Mr. Marfo told reporters.
The 15 lawmakers—including Kojo Oppong Nkrumah (Ofoase Ayirebi), Frank Annoh-Dompreh (Nsawam Adoagyiri), Sammi Awuku (Akuapem North), and Kofi Okyere Baafi (New Juaben South)—represent the majority of the NPP’s parliamentary caucus from the Eastern Region.
