Finance Minister Dr. Ato Forson has described the 2026 Budget as a strategic blueprint for Ghana’s economic renewal, emphasizing that the nation is now on a path of growth, job creation, and transformation.

Presenting the Budget Statement in Parliament on Thursday, Dr. Forson recounted the economic challenges the Mahama Administration inherited when it assumed office on January 7, 2025. These included high debt service, fiscal recklessness, soaring inflation, a rapidly depreciating cedi, low investor confidence, dwindling foreign direct investment, endemic corruption, energy insecurity, high unemployment, and severe hardship for Ghanaian households.

“Ghana was indeed at the bottom of the abyss, a nation in distress with its economy bleeding and its people weary,” he told Parliament, noting that the administration faced the urgent task of rebuilding the nation.

Dr. Forson highlighted that within 10 months, decisive leadership, bold reforms, and the resilience of Ghanaians have begun to turn the tide. The results, he said, are evident in strong economic growth, falling inflation, a stronger cedi, improved external buffers, restored fiscal discipline, significant debt reduction, expanded social protection, better debt management, and massive infrastructure development.

He attributed these gains to the collective sacrifice of Ghanaians and the adaptability of businesses, adding that the economy is now providing new opportunities across agriculture, industry, and technology.

“The story of Ghana is no longer one of crisis but of recovery and renewal. The Mahama Administration is not just stabilising an economy, it is rebuilding a nation,” Dr. Forson told lawmakers.

He emphasized that the government remains committed to fiscal discipline, social equity, and sustainable growth, pledging to consolidate stability and ensure that no Ghanaian is left behind.

“This Budget is more than numbers; it is a message of hope. It tells every Ghanaian child, farmer, teacher, trader, and entrepreneur that their sacrifices matter, that Ghana’s recovery is real, and that their government is working tirelessly to build a fair, prosperous, and self-reliant nation,” Dr. Forson said.

Concluding his presentation, the Finance Minister declared: “We are indeed Resetting for Growth, Jobs, and Economic Transformation,” under the visionary leadership of President Mahama, building “The Ghana We Want,” a nation that works for all, thrives in peace, and stands tall as a beacon of Africa’s renewal.
