Finance Minister, Dr. Ato Forson, has assured international partners and investors that Ghana is “back, strong, credible, and open for business,” following significant economic reforms under the Mahama Administration.
Speaking during the presentation of the 2026 Budget Statement in Parliament on Thursday, November 13, 2025, Dr. Forson highlighted the economic challenges inherited when the administration assumed office on January 7, 2025, including high debt service, fiscal recklessness, soaring inflation, a fast-depreciating cedi, low investor confidence, dwindling foreign direct investment, endemic corruption, energy insecurity, high unemployment, and severe household hardships.
“Ghana was indeed at the bottom of the abyss, a nation in distress with its economy bleeding and its people weary,” he said.

However, Dr. Forson noted that decisive leadership, bold reforms, and the resilience of the Ghanaian people have begun to turn the tide. In less than a year, the country has seen strong economic growth, falling inflation, a stronger cedi, improved external buffers, restored fiscal discipline, lower borrowing costs, significant debt reduction, restored investor confidence, expanded social protection, better debt management, and massive infrastructure development.
“Today, the cedi in your pocket is stronger, prices are reducing, and new opportunities are emerging across agriculture, industry, and technology,” the Finance Minister said.
He added that the 2026 Budget is more than just numbers; it is a message of hope to all Ghanaians that their sacrifices matter and that the government is working to build a fair, prosperous, and self-reliant nation.
“The storm has passed. The foundation is firm. The horizon is bright. Together, under the visionary leadership of President Mahama, we are building The Ghana We Want, a Ghana that works for all, thrives in peace, and stands tall once again as the beacon of Africa’s renewal,” Dr. Forson concluded.
