The Minister for the Interior, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, has revealed that just 1,000 candidates will be enlisted into the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) from a massive pool of over 180,000 applicants who applied in the latest recruitment exercise.
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, March 11, the Interior Minister said the overwhelming turnout reflects the growing unemployment pressures facing Ghana’s youth.
“While interest in joining the Immigration Service was exceptionally high, the institution is limited by available training and logistical resources,” he explained.
He added that current facilities, including accommodation and training infrastructure, can accommodate only about 1,000 recruits for this intake.
“The large gap between the number of applications received and the available slots underscores the intense competition for roles in the security services and highlights the broader employment challenges facing our youthful population,” the Minister said.
Mr. Muntaka reassured that the government is aware of the situation but must work within the structural capacity of the Service, emphasizing fairness and adherence to available resources during the recruitment process.
