A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team, Kwame Sefah has raised concerns over Ghana’s rising debt levels and developments within the construction sector, while defending the party’s role in holding government accountable.
Speaking on GHOne TV with Joshua Kodjo Mensah, the NPP communicator said opposition parties have a responsibility to scrutinise government actions and ensure transparency in governance.
Sefah claimed that Ghana’s debt stock has increased significantly within a short period, citing figures from official records.
“They should tell us if our debt has not increased by about $10 billion within that one year. This is reflected in budget statements and governance reports,” he stated.
He further dismissed suggestions that the increase could be attributed solely to exchange rate fluctuations.
The communicator also questioned recent contractor registrations under the Ministry of Roads and Highways, alleging that about 3,000 contractors were registered in 2025, compared to roughly 1,000 previously.
He called for greater scrutiny of the process to ensure compliance with industry standards.
