Six persons remanded over GHc14.7M daylight robbery of Jewelry Shop at Adabraka

Accused deny charges as court cites severity of offence in bail refusal.

The Circuit Court in Accra has remanded six persons including Salim Mohammed, aka Fariwata in connection with the daylight robbery act at a gold jewelry shop in Adabraka in July 2024

The six, all pleaded not guilty to the charges – a count of conspiracy, and two counts of robbery involving GH¢400,000 and 12.5kg of gold valued at GH¢14.3M.

The presiding Judge, His Honour Dennis Eyram Fumey, while denying them bail said it took into account the circumstances of the case and the severity of punishment associated with the offence.

Salim Mohammed alias Fariwata, 26, unemployed, Alhassan Illiyasu alias Arabman (also a Chief), businessman, 45, Hamza Agerego, alias Lambert or Nene Bawku, Security guard, 34, Abdul Samed Bonsiabu Larry, alias Tough, Businessman, 44, Fatawu Ibrahim alias Motorway, businessman, 36 and Abubakar Sadik alias Fifty Cent.

Lawyers of the Accused persons while praying for bail argued that their clients are businessmen and gainfully employed, and have strong ties with persons of sufficient means to stand as sureties.

But, prosecution led by Chief Inspector Jonas Lawer opposed to the grant of bail to the accused persons, which was upheld.

They are expected to reappear on April 27, 2026.

Brief facts

Per the brief facts of the case, the Complainant, Nana Kwame Afranie, is a businessman and a co-owner of Cabest Jewellery Adabraka, Accra.

It said, the first accused Salim Mohammed @ Fariwata, is unemployed, second accused
Alhassan Illivasu @ Arab man is a businessman and third accused Hamza Agerego alias Lambert alias Nene Bawku is a security guard.

The fourth accused is Abdul-Samed Bonsiabu Larry alias Touch is a businessman, fifth accused Fatawu Ibrahim alias Motorway is businessman and six accused Abubakar Sadik alias Fifty Cent alias 50 is a businessman.

The prosecution said, all the accused persons are residents of Ashaiman and Francisca Amoah Baffour is a businesswoman and a secretary at CABEST Jewellery shop, Adabraka, Accra.

It said, Amoah is also a witness in this case while the complainant has other employees working on a daily basis.

The facts said, on July 27, 2024, the complainant went to the office in the morning and closed at about 5:00 pm after the secretary had arrived with cash.

It said, some minutes after the arrival of the secretary, the accused persons who were heavily armed with AK47 Assault rifles arrived at the shop on three motorbikes.

The accused persons at gun point forcefully ordered the workers to leave the shop amidst firing of gunshots.

In the process, the accused persons robbed their victims of cash to the sum of Four Hundred Ghana Cedis (GHC 400, 000.00) and 12.5 kg (kilograms) of gold valued at Fourteen Million three hundred eighty seven thousand and ninety-six Cedis (GHc14,387,096.00).

The accused persons who had already parked and positioned their motorbikes near the scene jumped onto them and fled away with the booty as they continued to fire gunshots to scare the victims and residents to run for their lives.

Similar crime

It said the case was reported to the police and in a related development, the police were on the lookout for the accused persons for committing a similar crime at the same CABEST Jewellery shop November 2, 2024.

It said, on November 20, 2025, based on effective intelligence by the police A1 was arrested at Crystal Hospital, Ashaiman.

Further investigation led to the arrest of A2 and A3 on January 7, 2026 at Ashaiman.

“A thorough search conducted in the house of A2 and A3 led to the retrieval of Forty-Three (43) rounds of AK 47 Assault Rifle ammunition, Two Hundred and Forty-Nine (49)
BB Cartridges, Two pump Action guns, Four (4) police bullet proof vests, a pair of black police boots and a Gota hand set.

“During interrogation, A2 claimed ownership of the aforementioned items. On January 14, 2026, A4 was arrested at Ashaiman New York. A5 and A6 were later arrested all in connection to the same case.

“All the exhibits are retained for evidential purposes. There is CCTV footage, which the prosecution will use in the evidence against the accused persons at the appropriate time.

“On February 17, 2026 identification parade was conducted at the forecourt of the CID Headquarters,” it stated.

During the process, the accused persons were identified by eye witnesses. After investigation, they were charged.
