Three people, including a four-month-old baby, have died in a fatal road crash at Gomoa Akoti Junction on the Winneba-Kasoa Highway in the Central Region.
The accident involved a private car, a fuel tanker and a tipper truck.
According to eyewitnesses, the private vehicle was travelling from Winneba towards Kasoa when a pickup truck allegedly attempted a wrongful overtaking manoeuvre, forcing the driver of the private car to lose control and crash head-on into an oncoming fuel tanker.
The tanker driver reportedly applied emergency brakes in an attempt to avoid the collision, but a tipper truck travelling behind the tanker crashed into it from the rear.
The driver of the private car and a female passenger died instantly at the scene, while the infant sustained critical injuries and was rushed to St. Gregory Hospital, where the baby was later pronounced dead.
Eyewitnesses said the driver of the pickup vehicle believed to have caused the crash fled the scene immediately after the incident.
Police officers quickly responded to the scene to manage traffic and begin investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
