The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has maintained the existing electricity and water tariffs for the fourth quarter of 2026, meaning consumers will not see an increase in utility tariffs from October 1.
In a statement on Thursday, September 24, PURC said its quarterly review resulted in a zero per cent adjustment to the tariffs.
“The existing electricity and water tariffs of the third Quarter have not changed (0%), but remain same in the fourth Quarter,” the Commission stated.
The decision follows PURC’s assessment of key operational factors, including the Ghana cedi-US dollar exchange rate, domestic inflation, the cost of natural gas and the projected electricity generation mix.
For the fourth quarter, the Commission applied a weighted average exchange rate of GH¢11.5646 to the US dollar, representing a 3.04% depreciation of the cedi from the third-quarter rate of GH¢11.2228.
PURC also applied an average annual inflation rate of 4.97%, up from 3.43% in the previous quarter, while the weighted average cost of natural gas declined by 1.67% to US$7.837 per MMBtu.
The Commission projected hydroelectricity generation to increase from 20.90% in the third quarter to 24.25% in the fourth quarter, while thermal generation is expected to account for 75.75%.
PURC said the quarterly reviews are undertaken to maintain the real value of existing tariffs and enable utility providers to remain financially viable while delivering services to consumers.
The Commission said it remains mindful of concerns over the quality of utility services and will continue to monitor providers to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
“PURC is equally mindful of consumers’ concerns on quality of service and will continue to monitor operations of the regulated service providers, to hold them accountable to the Commission’s regulatory standards and benchmarks to ensure value for money and improved quality of service delivery.”
The fourth-quarter tariff decision takes effect on October 1, 2026, with the Commission indicating that the decision will be published in the Gazette and made available on its website.
