The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Senegalese goalkeeper Cheikh Touré in Kumasi in October 2025.
The suspects, identified as 32-year-old Nigerien national Salifu Walid and 24-year-old Burkinabe national Aziz Wadrago Mane, were arrested on September 20, 2026, at a hideout in Banpanase, near Mamponteng in the Ashanti Region.
According to the Police, preliminary investigations indicate that the two suspects are members of a four-person group that allegedly posed as football scouts and used online networks to lure victims into Ghana.
Investigators say Touré was allegedly brought into the country under the guise of a football opportunity as part of a scheme to defraud him. The Police say the operation subsequently resulted in his kidnapping and murder.
The Ghana Police Service said Walid and Mane admitted their involvement during interrogation and provided information about their alleged roles in luring Touré into Ghana. They remain in police custody and will be processed for court.
Police have identified two other suspects, Noukoubri Arzouma Sylviain, also known as Prince Pierre, and a person identified as Barry, as wanted persons in connection with the case.

The circumstances surrounding Touré’s death first came under scrutiny on October 16, 2025, when individuals who identified themselves as his brothers took him to the Manhyia Hospital with multiple abdominal injuries, claiming he had been involved in an accident. He was pronounced dead on arrival, while the men later deposited his body at the Ebenezer Mortuary at Tafo and disappeared. The case subsequently attracted attention in Senegal, where the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said preliminary investigations indicated that the goalkeeper may have been caught up in a fraud and extortion network, prompting Senegalese authorities to request a thorough investigation by Ghanaian authorities.
