The Ghana National Gas Limited Company (Ghana Gas), in partnership with the Ellembelle District Assembly, has launched the Eco Brigade Programme to improve coastal sanitation and create jobs for 250 residents in project-affected communities.
The initiative was launched by the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Gas, Judith Adjobah Blay, and the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah.

Under the programme, 250 men and women have been employed to undertake daily beach-cleaning activities, including the removal of plastic bottles, sachet-water rubbers, discarded fishing nets and other waste materials from the shoreline.
The initiative seeks to reduce marine pollution, promote responsible waste management and improve the cleanliness of beaches in coastal communities within Ghana Gas’s operational areas.

It also aims to provide employment opportunities for residents while promoting environmental protection and improving livelihoods in communities affected by the company’s operations.
The programme will benefit several coastal communities in the Ellembelle District, including Atuabo, Asemda Suazo, Anokyi, Baku, Ngalekyi, Ngalekpole, Eikwe, Krisan, Sanzule, Bakanta, Azuleloanu, Esiama, Kikam, Asemko, Bobrama, Asanta and Ankobra.

Ghana Gas said the initiative forms part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitments and reflects its focus on environmental sustainability and community development.
The company said its partnership with the Ellembelle District Assembly would strengthen collaboration with local authorities and communities to address coastal sanitation challenges and protect the environment for present and future generations.
