The Member of Parliament for Effutu in the Central region has donated 20 Hyundai buses to some drivers in Winneba area to facilitate their work.
The buses which was handed to the GPRTU to be distributed to the drivers according to the MP forms part of his strategy to create more job opportunities in the area to reduce unemployment.
Taxi drivers in the area were not left out of the donation as they will also benefit from a credit facility that will make available to them saloon cars for their businesses.
Other artisans such as the hairdressers, barbers and dress makers also benefitted from the donation.
15 hairdressers were given hair dryers, 20 barbers benefited from sterilizers while those in the sewing industry received sewing and state-of-the-art cloth designing machines.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Afenyo Markin urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the machines so that it lasts longer to bring improvement in their profession and ultimately reduce poverty in the area.
Hon. Afenyo Markin also bemoaned the neglect of the Winneba community by authorities at the University of Education.
The university, he explained has failed in their social responsibility to the community as no single project has been initiated by the university to address challenges of the indigenes despite donating the land that the university is sited.
According to him, the university ignores the indigenes when it comes to jobs, preferring to offer it to their family members and outsiders.
