Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus and Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central Constituency, has publicly addressed recent controversies involving alleged corruption claims and his supposed links to a scandal at the National Service Secretariat (NSS).
In a detailed statement released on Friday, A-Plus firmly denied all allegations and issued a formal apology to the Attorney General, Hon. Dr. Dominic Ayine, over remarks made on social media.
The MP clarified that a widely circulated Twitter (X) post accusing Dr. Ayine of being a thief and corrupt did not originate from him. Rather, it came from a fake account impersonating him. The impersonator’s account, he noted, bears his name, image, and even a verification badge making it appear authentic to the public.
“I have never at any point accused the Hon. Attorney General, Dr. Ayine, of being corrupt or a thief. That claim is false and misleading,” A-Plus stated. “The statements currently in circulation originated from a fraudulent Twitter (X) account that is impersonating me.”
A-Plus explained that the impersonator’s tweet seemed to have influenced Dr. Ayine’s comments during a press conference, where the Attorney General encouraged journalists to question the MP about an alleged scandal involving the NSS. In response, A-Plus denied any involvement in the matter.
“I have no knowledge of the matter and no connection to it whatsoever,” he emphasized. “I have never received any payment from the NSS, nor do I have any business directly or indirectly with the Secretariat.”
The only connection, he noted, was in November 2024, when an individual sought his media company’s assistance to publicly defend himself from what he claimed were false allegations. A-Plus said this act of support was consistent with his belief in giving accused persons a platform to be heard and should not be seen as an attempt to suppress the case.
He pointed to past instances where he stood by individuals across party lines, including his public support for Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson, to reinforce his stance on fairness and justice.
However, A-Plus acknowledged fault in his own Facebook response to Dr. Ayine’s press conference remarks. Admitting that his tone and choice of words were inappropriate, the MP offered a sincere apology.
“As a Member of Parliament, a younger colleague, and a junior in the House, I sincerely apologize to Hon. Dr. Ayine and to the general public,” he said, revealing that he had deleted the post as a gesture of respect something he rarely does.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the national fight against corruption and urged fellow public servants to pursue accountability with integrity and mutual respect.
“The fight against corruption remains a critical priority for His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, and the NDC government as a whole,” he concluded. “Let us move forward in unity and sincerity, with the national interest and the welfare of the Ghanaian people as our ultimate guide.”
