New Patrotic Party newly elected National Youth Organiser, Abanga Fuseini Yakubu, has pledged to work with the party’s youth wing and other stakeholders to secure victory for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2028 general elections.
Speaking to Isaac Addae on Morning Starr on Starr FM, Abanga Fuseini said his election comes with a responsibility to begin working immediately towards returning the party to power, stressing that the task ahead is not about personal interests or celebration.
“I can’t desert the responsibility to the party people. We should deliver power for them, God willing, in 2028,” he said.
According to him, the focus must now shift from the internal contest to the broader objective of helping the NPP win the 2028 elections.
“I’m not jubilating because I think the party has won. It’s about personal interests, about how we can collectively work together to deliver power,” he said.
Abanga Fuseini said he intends to bring new energy, strategy, innovation, creativity and hard work to the party’s youth wing as he begins his tenure.
He said his experience from previous contests had taught him that party members value consistency, perseverance and sacrifice.
He recounted that he contested the party’s parliamentary primaries in 2019 but lost, before contesting for the National Youth Organiser position in 2022, where he placed second.
He said those experiences strengthened his determination and helped him understand the expectations of party members.
“By speaking to them, listening to the feedbacks and reading their faces and their smiles, it shows they needed to reward hard work,” he said.
The NPP National Youth Organiser-elect said a major part of his agenda would be to mobilise young people and strengthen the party’s electoral fortunes ahead of 2028.
He disclosed that he is targeting at least 70 parliamentary seats as part of efforts to position the party for victory in the next general election.
He also emphasised the need for the NPP to mobilise a significant youth vote, describing the youth as central to the party’s strategy for the 2028 elections.
Fuseini Yakubu Abanga further stressed that resources would be critical to implementing the strategies he has outlined.
“You may have the best strategy in the world but without resources it will be difficult to implement them,” he said.
He pledged to work with the party’s leadership and other youth organisers, saying he would remain focused on supporting the party’s broader objective rather than allowing internal competition to distract him.
“I am determined, I’m focused and I’m ready for the party in the 2020s, so I’m not going to stray away from my focus,” he said.
He also appealed to his fellow contestants and their supporters to put the election behind them and work together, stressing that the ultimate objective should be to help the NPP regain power in 2028.
