Political communication lecturer Mohammed Tawfik Adamu has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to embrace modern campaign strategies, including digital tools, as it prepares for the 2028 general elections.
Speaking to Isaac Addae on Morning Starr on Starr FM, Mohammed Tawfik Adamu said Ghana’s political environment has evolved significantly, making it necessary for the NPP to move beyond traditional campaign methods and adopt approaches that reflect how voters, particularly young people, now engage with political parties and candidates.
According to him, the composition of the NPP’s newly elected leadership presents an opportunity for the party to combine institutional experience with modern political strategies ahead of the next election.
He noted that the party would require executives who understand contemporary campaign techniques and can effectively deploy digital platforms to communicate with voters.
“Political campaigning has evolved from the old campaign that we know. Now it has become digital,” he said.
Tawfik Adamu said the new leadership must therefore develop campaign systems capable of reaching voters through modern communication channels while maintaining the party’s grassroots structures.
He explained that the growing importance of digital platforms means political parties can no longer rely solely on traditional methods of reaching the electorate.
According to him, the NPP must strengthen its capacity to use digital platforms as part of its broader campaign strategy, particularly in engaging young voters.
He said the newly elected executives would have to bring their respective skills and expertise to bear in developing a coordinated campaign strategy ahead of 2028.
Mohammed Tawfik Adamu further said the combination of experienced party members and leaders with an understanding of contemporary political communication could help the NPP adapt its campaign approach to the changing political environment.
He stressed the need for the party to build a modern campaign structure that can effectively connect its national leadership with grassroots members and the wider electorate.
“Preparations for the 2028 elections must therefore begin with the development of effective organisational and communication structures capable of responding to the changing nature of political campaigning”. He said.
The NPP’s national executive elections have ushered in a new leadership team to steer the affairs of the party and strengthen its structures ahead of the next phase of its political activities.
John Boadu was elected National Chairman, while Justin Kodua Frimpong retained his position as General Secretary.
Former Delta Force commander Kojo Bamba was also elected First National Vice Chairman.
The new executives are expected to lead the NPP’s political mobilisation, strengthen its grassroots structures and position the party for future electoral contests.
