Renowned Broadcast Journalist and Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Marketing and Special Duties at the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey Santana, has clarified that his recent career shift is a move into public service, not politics.
Speaking on Starr Showbiz with Feeling Daddy on Starr 103.5 FM on Saturday, November 6, 2025, Abeiku Santana said his new position should not be interpreted as a political venture. “I think it’s public service, not necessarily politics,” he stated, adding that his years in radio also constituted public service in a different form.
Abeiku Santana explained that the key distinction for him is the transition from the private sector into a formal government institution. He noted that public service operates within a structured framework backed by legislation and regulations, unlike private-sector environments that often rely solely on organisational policies.
“The difference is public service is an institution of government that has systems, procedures, and is backed by legislation or regulation,” he said. In contrast, he described private work as either a one-man operation or corporate environment guided largely by internal policies.
According to him, the public sector demands a higher level of accountability and reporting. He revealed that his role requires him to report to his immediate superior, the sector minister and, at times, Parliament’s Select Committee. He recounted an encounter with a ranking MP who questioned his absence at a ministry engagement, saying this demonstrated the level of responsibility attached to public-sector roles.
Abeiku Santana, who studied public administration in 2010, said he is now learning the practical aspects of public service and considers the experience important to his professional growth. “I’ve been a leader in the private sector. I’m now a leader in the public sector. So I can marry the two differences or experiences, and I think it will help me in any future endeavour,” he added.

He described the transition as insightful and expressed satisfaction with the role, noting that the combination of private and public-sector leadership is enriching his career path.
