Deputy Chief Executive of Marketing and Special Duties at the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey Santana, says his transition into public service is enriching his leadership journey and preparing him for future roles.

Speaking on Starr Showbiz with Feeling Daddy on Starr 103.5 FM on Saturday, December 6, 2025, Abeiku Santana, who is also a renowned broadcast journalist, explained that working within government structures is offering him new perspectives that complement his years of leadership in the private sector.

Abeiku Santana clarified that his current role is not politics but public service, noting that although radio also serves the public, the shift from private sector work to a government institution has introduced him to a different system of accountability.

He said public service operates with “systems, procedures, and legislation,” unlike the private sector where work is guided largely by organisational policy. According to him, the requirement to report to supervisors, ministers and even Parliament’s Select Committee has broadened his understanding of administrative responsibility.

“Though I studied public administration in 2010, I’m learning the practice of public service,” he said, recalling how a ranking Member of Parliament recently questioned his absence at a ministry meeting, a reminder of the level of responsiveness expected of public servants.

Abeiku Santana described his new environment as “interesting and very insightful,” saying it is contributing significantly to his growth. “I’ve been a leader in the private sector. I’m now a leader in the public sector. I can marry the two differences or experiences, and I think it will help me in any future endeavour.”

He added that he is enjoying the role, emphasising that the blend of private and public sector experience is shaping a more rounded leadership path for him.
