The Western Regional Manager of the Forestry Commission, Nana Kwabena Bosompim, has assured of the continous presence of personnel from the Forestry Commission and the Ghana Armed Forces in the Subri Forest Reserve.
This follows Tuesday’s dawn raid in the area, which saw the taskforce clamp down on illegal mining and other criminal activities in a settlement that housed over 10,000 inhabitants. During the raid, the team uncovered a web of illicit operations, including illegal mining sites, brothels, and other makeshift structures.
Speaking to Starr News on the back of this, Nana Bosompim said a team has been deployed to remain on the ground to the flushed out illegal miners and associated criminal networks do not regroup and reclaim the forest reserve.
“We want to go the long haul. It’s not going to be a one-off operation. We’ll be frequenting the place, and at a point, we’re even going to camp within the settlement. We’ll put up our tents and stay there for a while,” he told Tutuwaa Danso on Starr Today.
Mr. Bosompim also noted that 14 suspected kingpins believed to be at the helm of illegal mining at Abrewa Ni Nkran were arrested during the raid.
