Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has been released from police custody after fulfilling his bail conditions.
An Accra Circuit Court granted him bail on Monday, September 15, 2025, in the sum of GH₵50,000 with one surety, bringing an end to a week-long detention that began on September 8 following his arrest.
His lawyer, Daniel Martey Addo of Nkrumah & Associates, confirmed the development and described the ruling as a fair correction of an earlier decision. “We felt strongly that the decision made earlier was not proper in law.
The same law, however, gave us an opportunity to repeat the application and correct such errors. We have argued and we are glad that our prayer has been heard,” he told journalists outside the courtroom.
The defense also expressed concern over Abronye DC’s health, noting that he had reportedly refused food and water during his time in custody as a form of protest. Family members indicated he would undergo medical checks before returning home.
Abronye DC was arrested on September 8, 2025, on charges of offensive conduct conducive to a breach of public peace and publication of false news.
Police said his arrest was linked to public comments in which he accused the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the ruling party of misconduct, remarks authorities deemed potentially inflammatory.
The case has been adjourned to October 7, 2025, as the outspoken NPP regional chairman faces trial.
