Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu has underscored the pivotal role accountants play in Ghana’s fight against corruption, stressing that their vigilance, professionalism, and integrity are central to the success of any government anti-corruption initiative.
Speaking at a gathering of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG), the Minister praised the profession for upholding best practices and contributing to objective and inclusive decision-making processes.
He called on accountants to be relentless in exposing financial irregularities such as leakages, over-invoicing, and under-invoicing.
“I see your role at the heart of the success of any effort by government to combat corruption,” he stated.
“The leakages, the over-invoicing, and the under-invoicing can only always be revealed and exposed by you. Do so for the Republic in order that you can guarantee value for money for the Ghanaian taxpayer in the work that you do.”
Haruna Iddrisu emphasized that integrity must be non-negotiable for professionals in the accounting field. “It is at the hallmark of your career and I trust that you would lead as regulators with integrity,” he added. “Don’t only preach it you must live it and practice it.”
