Samuel Atta Akyea, legal counsel for former National Signals Bureau (NSB) Director Kwabena Adu-Boahen, has stated that his client is innocent until proven otherwise by court of law.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with GHOne TV, the former Member of Parliament for Akim Abuakwa South noted that he (lawyer) has been denied a confidential engagement with his client, even though he (Adu-Boahene) is not confirmed guilty by a court.
The lawyer stated that Adu-Boahen deserves a fair hearing, and should be treated as an innocent man until a competent court of law proves otherwise. “Every individual, no matter who he is, without party colors, is deemed innocent until proven otherwise’ he asserted.
According to him, the statements made by the Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine are ‘unmitigated prejudice’ arguing that his comments, relating plea bargaining of his client are unfounded. “The mounting of his evidence is so much to the point he believes people should engage in plea bargaining, can you imagine that?! People who have not been charged, people who have not been brought before a court of competent jurisdiction to plea bargain”. He added.
Kwabena Adu-Boahen, was arrested on March 21, 2025, upon his arrival at Kotoka International Airport. The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) apprehended him over allegations of embezzlement, fraud, and illicit financial transactions.
The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, disclosed that Adu-Boahen is accused of diverting approximately GHS 49 million (around $7 million) in state funds into his personal accounts. These funds were originally allocated for a cyber defense system contract with the Israeli company ISC Holdings Limited. However, only GHS 9.5 million ($1.75 million) was transferred to ISC Holdings, with the remaining amount allegedly misappropriated for personal use.
Investigations have revealed that Adu-Boahen and his wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng, allegedly used the misappropriated funds to acquire multiple properties. These include luxury homes at Mayfair Estates in Accra, with deposits ranging from $97,815 to $1,000,000. Additionally, they have been linked to Vertex Properties, which owns 27 houses in Oyarifa, each valued at $295,000. The Attorney General’s office has indicated that efforts are underway to recover the allegedly stolen funds and ensure accountability.
