Ghana’s chances of making it to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco have significantly increased following Niger’s crushing of Sudan at the Stade de Kégé in Lomé on Thursday.
Niger made their intentions clear by scoring just six minutes into the game.
Daniel Sosah opened the scoring and Youssef Oumarou doubled the lead before Sosah again gave the Menas a comfortable 3-0 lead from the penalty spot.
The Nigeriens’ fourth goal was scored by Ousseini Badamassi, leaving the Falcons of Jediane in disbelief as Kwesi Appiah tried to regroup his team for a second-half comeback.
The 4-0 win takes Niger to third place in Group F with four points after five games. They are behind the already-qualified Angola and Sudan, who have 12 points and seven points, respectively.
The Black Stars will be thrilled with the outcome because Sudan would have been formally eliminated from the tournament if they had scored a point in the match.
This win means Ghana now sits 4th in the group, but a win in their fifth match against Angola on Friday will lift them to 3rd with five points.
Meanwhile, Otto Addo’s team must defeat Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, November 18, 2024, and pray that Sudan loses to Angola.
Under those circumstances, the Black Stars will go above the Jediane Falcons to secure the final qualifying slot in Group F.
